Rental reforms not hitting the root of the crisis
The Queensland state government is rolling out their fifth round of reforms in just four years for property management.
Ray White Queensland’s head of property management Kate Stewart said that whilst property managers across the network welcome clearer legislation that helps reduce ambiguities and support our landlords and tenants, they are overwhelmed by the frequent changes.
“For a profession that has seen a 30 per cent reduction in its workforce, the proposed rental reforms do not encourage new property managers into our industry,” Kate said.
“It is unclear how the proposed reforms effectively address the ongoing affordability crisis and assist with the cost of living concerns that tenants are experiencing.”
“Landlords' confidence in Queensland's private market is likely to be impacted further by the restrictions now being placed on the collection of information regarding previous tenancies.”
