"Alex was a tenant of mine at my previous agency and followed me across to Ray White in 2021.

More and more tenants are applying with pets. Responsible pet owners are providing a cover letter including photos, microchipping details and council registration.

It is very common for most families to have a pet and they are looking for pet friendly landlords and properties.

Current legislation allows NSW landlords to refuse permission to keep a pet at their property without a reason, when this is the case there is a clause in the Residential Tenancy Agreement restricting a pet.

My advice to tenants keeping a pet is to include a cover letter about their pet with all relevant information, and if you can, ask previous property managers for a pet reference. Be truthful when applying for a property and always disclose if you have a pet.
